While doing this assignment I found there were a lot of ads out there with sexually explicit messages. No wonder our society is all about sex and we have pregnant teens everywhere! These ads show it is ok for teens to act this way. I did find out from the people I evaluated that they would purchase all items on this poster. They said it is very attracting, it caught their eye compared to other ads that werent as sexual. Sex does sell! Some pros for having sexually explicit messages would be that they have higher rates of sales because of how attracting it is. Cons would be that teens take this in for what it is and thinks it is ok to act like the people in these ads.

Reflection

I learned a lot from this class. I only took this class as a general education class that I heard was way easy. I ended up learning a lot from this class. I learned how to communicate in every relationship, how to stay out of certain situations, work well with your partner so your marriage will be easier etc. The assignments I posted as my signature assignments were about how to handle money with your spouse, and working parents. These two had an impact on me because the handling money showed me how many options you have to work with your spouse on money situations. I liked the idea of having an allowance every week to buy what you “want” you can split the difference for things you “need.”The working parents had an impact on me because I had to look at other options, my ideal living situation when I am married with kids is to have my husband work and I stay with the kids. I will work from home with my business I plan to own. This assignment forced me to look at more options.

I faced challenges of getting out of my “mind set” and looking around for better, different options. I have a hard time looking at new things when I know exactly what I want! I chose these assignments to put on here because they made a difference in my life. I wanted to post something that was a little harder for me to do. It demonstrates how I can look past what I want and look for new and more challenging opportunities! I feel like I can handle new situations as they are thrown at me when I have a relationship. I need to watch what I say, have an open mind to new things, pay close attention to my nonverbal communication to others. Overall this class was great and taught me a lot for the future!

Working Parents

I would prefer to stay at home with my children. I have always wanted the “mommy” job. I have been a nanny for 5 years now and have taught dance for 5 years as well. My life is all about kids. I would be ok with my husband working during the day and me working as a dance instructor or whatever at night when he is home, but my ideal situation would be to stay at home with my kids. If I made enough to support my family I would make sure my husband was home. I strongly believe in being there for your kids. My mom was a stay at home mom when I was growing up and it helped a ton. She now works full time and I take care of my little sister...its hard on her! She wants and needs her mom just like how I had.

I would only allow my kids to go to a child care center if it was my ONLY option. I will do anything in my power to make sure my family does not live in poverty and hope my kids have a mom or dad with them at all times. I see how hard it is for my cousin who has to go to child care... he hates it and has horrible memories from it. I also have seen the side of having a nanny. All the kids want is their mom, once they have gotten over the fact that their mom isn’t going to be there then all they want is their nanny. It is really hard to let go of the kids you nanny after all of that, they love you and you love them! I’m not fond of the idea of having a nanny. I want my kids to know I am always there for them!

I interviewed my mom, she has been married to the same man for 25 years. I have idolized my parents for how well they work together, and help each other through all the hard things in their life. I hope to have this same kind of relationship when I find the one I will marry. I have friends that got married a year ago and they have struggled with money and how to handle it. They are still in the state of mind that they want everything they want and don’t need to share finances but that is not true. I love the idea of each spouse having an allowance they can use without question, use it on what they want!
Do you believe that all your assets belong to both of you and that all your debts are your joint responsibility? Yes, because we are a team. We work for everything we have together and share the same belief of working together on everything and doing what is best for our family. Do you expect to share equally in financial decisions? If not, how do you plan to make financial decisions? Yes, again we are a team. We do use a budget, because it helps us live within our needs. How do you feel about each partner's having a personal allowance for which he or she is not accountable to the other? I think it is a good idea, everybody wants and needs different things so to have money that doesn’t have to be asked about it would be nice! How do you feel about buying on credit? Small items? Large items? It is good to build credit so you can buy a house, car etc. but in some instances I think it’s best to not use it. I would say no to small items on credit because it is easy to get into financial trouble. Keep your credit open for bigger purchases. Neither of us had any debts coming into marriage. We share bills we divide and conquer. We both use checks, we both help with the bookkeeping, primarily my husband but just like everything else we have said we do things together.

Mentor Interview

I interviewed Leslie Mulford-Reiser. She owns a dance studio called Elite Academy where I have worked for 4 years now. There are a lot of things I have learned from Leslie, things that I plan on taking with me to my business and things that I would not want to use in my studio.

Leslie has danced since she was 2 years old an taught dance for 10+ years before owning a studio. She was teaching dance and cheering with the U while she was attending school at the University of Utah. She was also the cheer coach at The U after she finished. Owning a studio entails a lot of hard work, you need to deal with parents, texts and emails daily. You need to collect payments each month, you need to find costumes, teachers, songs for company dances. You need to find a good facility to accommodate your new studio. You need to find a way to use the studio during the day to make money. Find competitions and conventions for your companys to go to, decide wheather your going to be a technique based studio or a performance based studio. There is a lot with a dance studio, a lot of hard work and dedication goes into this job! It takes someone who really loves dance and the dance world to go through the things needed to have a studio.

I wanted to ask Leslie if she could do it all over again would she have a studio? She said no. I said if you could start over what would you do different? She said she couldn’t think of anything. I asked what do you like most about this career? She said watching all the kids progress and get better with age. I asked what do you dislike most about this job? She said dealing with crazy parents.

I really enjoyed this assignment because it showed me how much really needs to be done for a dance studio. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication! I am so ready to start my business but would like to finish school before I start a crazy, fun business.
